One of the major misconceptions about womens health is that vaginal discharges are a bad thing. Well in most cases, the vagina discharges to keep itself clean and hence is a completely natural process. On the other hand, sometimes infections can happen, and a woman can start discharging some blood, or the discharge might start stinking. This condition is called vaginitis and is caused by the outnumbering of healthy bacteria by unhealthy bacteria. Some of the common causes of vaginitis are certain kinds of soaps, pregnancy, diabetes, antibiotic medicine, some infections and various STD’s. On the other hand, preventing vaginitis is quite simple. A woman must take certain steps like always wiping after using the toilet, bathing everyday and wiping the vagina good and clean, not wearing tight panties and various other things that can keep the vagina clean and comfortable. Womens health might suffer long term consequences of not treating vaginitis and hence one must always go to a doctor if symptoms show up.
Pelvic organ prolapsed is another condition detrimental to women health. This condition usually shows up after pregnancy, as during pregnancy the muscles holding the pelvic organs up are loosened. If these do not tighten up post pregnancy, internal pelvic organs will begin to sag, applying pressure on a woman’s vagina. Some of the symptoms of this condition are, feeling pressure from the inside of the vagina, feeling like your lower abdomen is full, a painful lower back, as well as a difficulty in clearing bowels. Stool is often liquid as solids have a hard time passing through the intestines. If you do find yourself in such a condition, you must seek a doctor immediately. Certain conditions such as being overweight, coughing persistently, cancer in the pelvic area, age and genetic disorders can aggravate or trigger this condition. When a woman grows old, menstruation stops, this period of time is called menopause. Menopause has many varied effects on women health. Menopause is said to have happened when a woman stops having her periods for over 12 months. This process is not a disease or disorder but a natural biological process. Generally, women reach menopause between the ages of 45 to 55. The symptoms of menopause are, loss of breast fullness, vaginal dryness, fatigue, irritability, mood swing, weight gain, irregular or skipped periods, change in Libido, hot flushes, night sweat, thinning of skin and so on. Menopause could cause two major diseases, Cardiovascular and Osteoporosis. Cardiovascular could happen because of less production of estrogen hormones and menopause could decrease the density of women’s bone. The bone may be weak and could cause fracture easily, especially hip, wrist and spine.
Womens health can deteriorate during menopause and the effects can be offset by consuming the right food and vitamins, such as, alcohol, tea, coffee, spicy food should be strictly avoided as they cause hot flushes and make women irritable. Exercise regularly to avoid the risk of heart disease, have balanced diet which is rich in calcium and vitamin D, and have fruits, cereals, vegetables. Stop smoking to avoid bone or heart disease. Hormone replacement therapy, HRT, is also an option to cut down the suffering of menopause symptom; it will relieve women from pain and other irritating symptoms. Women are suggested to seek medical advice in case of bleeding following a year without the menstrual cycle and this can cause womens health problems in the future.
